Padlet...a great tool for educators!

A technology tool that can best assist in each of the five components is the Padlet. From my research I discovered that it’s an online wall that lets people express their thoughts on a topic very easily. Users can upload pictures, videos, various documents and text from anywhere. The main concept is that there is a “wall” which is like a blank piece of paper where users can jot down their thoughts. It can be used for personal note taking, to-do lists, party invitations, feedback etc. At first it seemed like a social media website but after looking into it further, I feel as if this is a useful tool to utilize in any classroom. Teachers can use the tool in the classroom to do a group discussion, make an outline, and assign students to post comments on a topic. It can be used as an icebreaker on the first day of school. The best part is that it’s a free and very user friendly. Students and parents can both use it with minimal knowledge of technology.

  1. Thanks for sharing, Fatima. I had not heard of Padlet but just spent 20 minutes reading through the FAQs and perusing the examples on the site. I love the technology and flexibility however I am still not certain on how this would be effective for a classroom. Your examples seem like good ones but I guess I'm thinking from the point of view of a teacher with younger elementary grade students who may not be as connected as older students would be. As with so many other technology tools, it may take awhile for some people to understand the potential each one brings. I'll keep thinking about Padlet and how to use it in a classroom setting.

  2. Padlet can serve as a virtual wall and has the potential to engage students. One of our middle school science teacher (who has a class set of iPads) uses it for a brainstorming, do now, or informal assessment. Since it allows videos, documents, and multimedia, I am thinking that it can be used to explore the potential to develop students knowledge and skills in these 5 areas. As Henry pointed out, for elementary students, there may be limitations or constraints in adopting this technology, depending on how teachers want to use it and for what purpose.

Fatima- keep exploring and sharing your ideas about using Padlet to cultivate the development in these 5 areas. Let me know. :D
